Hunan

The culinary delights of Hunan province and the people of Louisiana are a perfect match. Jeffery Cheng knew when he established the first Hunan Chinese Restaurant on North Boulevard in 1979 that the people of these two very different parts of the world had a lot in common. Hunan province and Louisiana both share humid, fertile wetlands that bear splendid, bountiful seafood. Also, the people of these distant lands share a taste for richly seasoned spicy foods

By the time that the Hunan Chinese Restaurant moved to Sherwood Forest boulevard in 1989, it had already built a reputation as the first and only real choice for Chinese cuisine. Hunan has been recognized by The Advocate as the "Best Oriental Restaurant" in Baton Rouge for seven years, the restaurant was also voted. The "Best Asian Restaurant" by the "Taste of Baton Rouge".

For many of Hunan's loyal customers, lunch has become a regular tradition. Families gather together after Sunday church service and working professionals look forward to putting aside their hectic schedules for a few minutes to enjoy the lavish spread of our popular luncheon buffet. It is during the evening, though, that the restaurant's elegant dining experience is best captured. Katty Cheng's secret family recipes and the finest chefs from New York and Mainland China have gotten the praise by some of Louisiana's most famous four-star chefs, political leaders and great sports figures. This is very complimentary, but it is our loyal customers who have made Hunan such a success
