Jeffery Cheng knew when he established the first Hunan Chinese Restaurant on North Boulevard in 1979 that the people of these two very different parts of the world had a lot in common. By the time that the Hunan Chinese Restaurant moved to Sherwood Forest boulevard in 1989, it had already built a reputation as the first and only real choice for Chinese cuisine. Hunan has been recognized by The Advocate as the "Best Oriental Restaurant" in Baton Rouge for seven years, the restaurant was also voted. The "Best Asian Restaurant" by the "Taste of Baton Rouge".

For many of Hunan's loyal customers, lunch has become a regular tradition.
